An alternative view on life, politics, and computers
Obama and Clinton and scorched earth
Published on April 28, 2008 By Calor In Democrat

Despite the Republicans doing nothing but damaging the economy, ruining the reputation of the United States across the world and getting us into a disastrous war in Iraq, the Democrats may still lose the Presidency.

Obama needs to take the bold step and tell the American people the real facts that conservative America have distorted of the years.

We don't live in a democracy or a republic. We live in a corporate controlled obliarchy. The laws and rules are set up to ensure that a tiny percentage of the American people control and own most of the wealth generated by us all.

Obama is surrounded by people who know this truth and the right wingers are managing to pick out a few of the less savory. But the common belief is there: The United States of today is a country with serious fundamental problems. America needs to be fixed and rebuilt from the ground up. That is the basis for the progressive movement.

The last 8 years have been a disaster. The Bush tax cut for the rich has put unprecedented amounts of wealth into the wealthiest of the elite. I've seen right wingers claim how it's not a tax cut for the rich because it was a simple across the board tax decrease. They miss the point. Why is it that 1% of the population is receiving nearly a third of the wealth being generated each year? How is that fair and balanced? How is that equitable?

We now live in a country where the new rich are not people making or building things but instead are people who are manipulating currencies, managing money of other people, or simply latched onto groups of people actually making things. How did we come to this?

And all the while, the conservatives begrudge any attempt to provide every American with at least some basic health care. What about catastrohpic health insurance for every man, woman, or child? Nope, the Republicans want that money to pay for big SUVs and gigantic houses I guess.

As Republicans go, John McCain isn't nearly as bad as most of the right wing ilk. But he's still promising to make the disastrous Bush tax cuts permanent and keeping our troops in Iraq for an indefinite period. So the idea that he could be President is appalling.

Hopefully Obama will pull things together, get Clinton to go quietly into the sunset and bring this country together this November.

The economy did not go into the tank until the democrats took the purse strings.

ANd if you think the last 8 years were bad, just think of what the next 4 will be with a clod or a bitch at the helm.

Clinton is beating McCain in the latest poll.  Maybe Obama will be smart enough to go quietly into the sunset.

Ponder this:

Poor pay less taxes – Rich pay more taxes – Is this fair?

If rich pay more, shouldn’t they get more from the Govt.?

Analogy: Two people walk into a restaurant and order the same meal, say steak. One person gets a 16oz porterhouse with all the trimmings, the other person gets a 4oz. Salisbury steak and 3 french fries. The person that gets the chopped steak pays $60 (the waiter is also standing by for a tip) and the person with the porterhouse pays $0 and is told to come back next week for the same deal.

Now in my fantasy world, both poor and rich pay the same tax on the money they earn – Sound fair? Rich still pay more overall, because they make more.

Equal taxes = equal services provided

If everyone cannot receive the service, it is classified as an entitlement and eliminated.

For example: A Single father can’t get WIC then it’s gone.

The benefit is a lot of wasteful spending is cut, more money is available for defense and infrastructure, taxes for everyone is lower and everyone is treated the same – fair.

reputation of the United States across the world

LOL.  Why do liberals care so much about what loons around the "world" think?  They didn't love us before.

Healthcare is not the responsibility of the federal government, nor is it the responsiblity for citizens having to bear the burden for another persons responsibility.

As I said before, Obama is incapable of uniting or bringing this country together.  The same goes for the other candidates as well.  Obama wants government healthcare, higher taxes, and restrictive gun rights....he will never unite me.

Obama and Hillary both have too many fingers in what you call the "corporate controlled oligarchy" to go rocking the boat now.  Only an Obama apologist would consider a guy living in a $1.6 Million home, "not rich".  Wake up and smell the corruption, Obama is no different than any other politician... Just ask his preacher.

We are in the middle of having a clod at the helm and as for a bitch, don't forget the Nancy Reagan presidency. She was the one running the White House while Ronnie was drooling, forgetting his name and soiling himself during his second term.

I don't plan to vote for any of the 3 this November.  Obama and Clinton would raise my taxes without giving me anything in return and McCain has done great damage to the first amendment by greatly limiting my ability to participate in the political process due to McCain-Feingold.

Slick Willie couldn't have decimated the military without Ronald Reagan ending the cold war. Guess he thought he could just buy a few cruise missles to take the militarys place. Look where that got us.

As opposed to Bush cutting your taxes and sending your kids and grandkids the bill for your taxes.

In reality, it's more like the democrat held Congress sending the bill for their outrageous spending.  All we need now is Obama/Hillary to give us government healthcare to tack on.

Jesus, it was quite apparent you were completely disconnected from reality, but I never knew you were that psychotic to believe that.

Um, no. They could also cut spending. It's not my job to pay for the unproductive of America.

You could even say I'm pro-starvation of stupid poor people (though given the obesity rate, that's not likely to happen).

Oh yea, I can definitely tell you have a real track on "reality".

I always love how the left-wing fringe assumes those who have different opinions are automatically stupid or evil or out of touch no matter how obvious it is that the person they're talking to is well educated and quite clearly in touch.

By supporting Bush you support evil, what other conclusion can be drawn from your support of evil? Bush is the worst President in history and arguably the worst person in the history of the planet.

uite clearly in touch.

Supporting Bush is directly contradictory to being in touch with reality.

Sorry, but that is just plain stupid.  I support low taxes, and as Draginol said, I also don't support paying for unproductive people.

Supporting Bush is directly contradictory to being in touch with reality.

It's not a matter of supporting Bush.  I would imagine the reality you live in is only relevant in places like the DailyKos.
