In an era where Republicans paint their foes with the big brush of "liberal, terrorist-loving, unpatriotic, welfare supporting losers" these same folks have remarkably fragile feelings when Howard Dean points out the obvious. Republicans, by and large, are predominantly the party of white Christians whereas the Democrats represent everyone else.

Fox News and other conservative media only manage to trot out one meaningful statistic, that Bush got 40% of the hispanic vote. Does that mean what Dean said was not basically true? The Republican party manages to win elections because it has become the party of the ethnic majority, white Christians. Not every Republican is a white Christian. But most are.

Face it, it's a lot easier to stereotype a Republican than a Democrat. Democrats represent people of all races and creeds. It's really is a big tent party.  That is why the Republican party is doomed in the long-run. Karl Rove and the Republican leaders know this. That is why they are spending so much time trying to reach out to non-white citizens. They need to start being paletable to other types of people.  Howard Dean has the luxury of letting time do the work for him. In another decade 'everyone else' will be the majority and the Republicans will be pigeon-holed as a permanent minority white-christian political party.

Yes. Howie has a point, and it's covered by the hair on his pinhead.

Sorry but Howard Dean is not the name you should be dropping when pointing fingers at folks who paint their foes with the big broad brush.

If Howie was a Republican saying the same things he's been saying lately, there are very few liberals who wouldn't be calling him the GOPs new David Duke.

Happy Painting!!

Howard Deam has a point only if he applies his statement to the DNC as well. But looking objectively at the "big two" parties, I would categorize the GOP as being MORE diverse than the DNC Want proof? Look at Bush's cabinet choices. More minorities, more women than any presidential cabinet in HISTORY.

A look at the DNC leadership profile will show precisely ONE nonwhite nonChristian candidate for president or vice president (Joe Leiberman); a look at the DNC chair will show NO nonwhite nonChristian chairperson. At least one prominent DEMOCRAT (although it IS Al Sharpton, so the allegation should be investigated before being taken as solid evidence) has stated that minority involvement in the Democratic Party is at a historic low.

Howard Dean has a point ONLY as applies to the major political parties in general, his own included. While those parties court minorities, you do not find those same minorities rising to the top at the same level as white Christians do. It was an unfair partisan attack against the GOP and Dean should be ashamed.

Excellent points Gid. The Democratic party is just as white and Christian as the Republican party. When Dean talks about his "party" he is really talking about the leadership and the supposedly elite.

The grass-roots of the Democratic party are just as whitebread as that of the Republican party. If it were not so, they'd probably get about 20% of the vote each election...

Does Howard Dean have a point?

Yes on the top of his head.

See my article.  As that blows yours away.  Sorry about that. the republicans are the party of diversity and ideas.  The democrats are the party of slave masters and victims.

Want an easy definition of democrats?  Victims and 'ends justify the means' failures.

period.

Yes, and if the Democrats were in office it would be the same thing. Bush didn't get the women and minorities because he honestly wants to be ethnically diverse- maybe he does, I don't know his mind- but he wants to tell America he is ethnically diverse. He may or may not be- but the only major reason for those appointments if because he's trying to prove everyone has a chance in everything. That's his motivation.

Slave masters. Right. Hang on, let me go grab my whip real fast, I'll go beat some Jewish guy. Oh wait... I am Jewish. Damn.

I want to see your evidence that the Democrats are "slave masters." I want you to prove how they are not striving towards diversity as much as anyone else is politically. You're not going to gain any sympathy for your opinions if all you do is point fingers and call names and never even bother to give reasons for it. Even if you've given your reasons elsewhere, not everyone has read all your posts- sorry, but I don't avidly follow your every word- so you might as well state it again. Because right now you're being jsut as pigheaded, bigoted, and prejudiced as you make the Democrats out to be.

Cheers, Pads.

As a non christian non white republican I wonder what happen to the democratic party, who flushed all there morals and ethics down the toilet?

Face it, the Republicans have done what the Democrats have only paid lip service to. It is insulting that so many like you have the arrogance to assume that those "non-white citizens" you refer to are being duped, unable to make decisions for themselves about their political preferences, which is what you imply by your statement. Democrats want to represent all races and creeds, but that's it, if you get my point. I'm beginning to think Howard Dean has an undiagnosed brain tumor or something. He's getting dumber by the day. And if he continues to believe that the road to salvation of the Democrats lies in bashing white Christians (not to mention conservative female black judges), it's his party that is doomed, my friend.

Cheers,

It isn't hard to stereotype Democrats. People wouldn't be mad at us for doing it all the time. Saturday night live and other satire shows wouldn't have such an easy time of it, either.

I'm still laughing at the conservative media comment.

Howard Dean is stupid for making all of his racist comments about African-Americans and hateful comments towards Republicans. Oh wait, its a good thing because he making it seem like all democrats are like that. Hmmm..... I think he will be pushing people away from his party coughEdwardscough
