An alternative view on life, politics, and computers
Oh they like the government alright
Published on December 18, 2007 By Calor In Democrat

Radio host Shawn Hannity today complained about how Democrats abuse the power of government to try to control what people do. His complaint centered on the thought that if we had government managed health care that the government might start telling people that they shouldn't eat junk food and excercising more. He used this as an example of how the Democrats are always trying to use government to tell people how they should live.

And then moments later without irony, Hannity discussed how the government should keep a private home owner in Texas from being able to host a "Swinger's Club" in his house. A group of consenting adults like to engage in behavior that Hannity finds objectionable that is done in private on private property and Hannity supports the government stopping that behavior.

Republicans wonder why so many intellectuals and people in the media don't take them seriously? It's because the GOP is so full of hypocrites like Hannity. What's more, they're so thick that they don't see their hypocrisy. They are all for government intrusion on our lives if they think we aren't living a correct Christian life but are quick to trot out paranoid scenarios of possible government intrusion.  Here's a clue Republicans, Swinger's Club incident is a bonafide real life example of the government invading our lives. Your paranoid fantasy of the government telling us what we can and can't eat is not.

It is because Republicans are so quick to turn to the government to enforce morality, while being blind at the same time that they are doing this, that the rest of us fear what a prolonged tenure of Republican power might do to the country.

I avoided this from the title, but I'm glad I came in here, because you really do make an excellent point. Both sides of the fence, of course, are pretty hypocritical, and this particular story does illustrate the hypocrisy of many on the right.

As offensive and objectionable as I find the actions of this group, I agree. What they do on their property, behind their closed doors, is their business. As long as it involves consenting adults, that is.

Excellent article and excellent points!

Wow, nicely done. You make a very good point, because Sean Hannity and his ilk love to preach and parade about how government's too intrusive and must be pared back -- so it's hypocritical for him to blast the government for not shutting down a swinger's club. Nice work, excellent insight!

Well - can't go that far.  Sorry, but sometimes, even the Armin-Meiweses cannot do their own thing.

You don’t understand you see secular progressives don’t have the lord in their heart, and that leaves a vacancy for you know whom. Secular progressives actions simply cannot be trusted to come from the moral center that only religion provides. We must give them the moral guidance that they cannot provide for themselves whether they want it or not.

I thought the gov't was to protect my beliefs not infringe my beliefs on everyone else and vice versa?

If I don't like what's being taught in schools then I have a choice to either find a school that I agree with or teach them myself.

This is where PC has gone OC.

I don't hate Hannity, but I don't agree with everything he says or all the positions he takes. In this case, his positions are in clear logical conflict and can't be justified rationally. Talking out of both sides of his mouth doesn't help his credibility.

. . . . . .nothing more needs to be said, "Then this is what you get with people like SEAN HANNITY."

this is more probable that the government would hold a gun to your head.

i have already given my answer to this one.

now lets compare.

AL gore says everybody needs to cut back on green house gases. at the sometime living in a house that uses more energy in a month than most blocks do in a year. but that is OK because he buys carbon credits from a company that he owns.

the democrats have been complaining about the amount of spending that the GOP did when they controlled everything. at the same time Nancy increases house spending by 60% in one year.

Jesse Jackson throws a fit because some idiot on the radio says something about some basketball players. and says nothing about the rap singers saying things that makes the radio idiot look like a saint.

i think trying to control what you eat and how much you exercises compared to thinking about protecting kids in a neighborhood. just doesn't fall into the same territory.
