What is it with rich people and their greed? Obviously it takes some sort of love of money to make someone work so hard at accumulating material wealth. But they lose sight of the bigger picture: Life. You really see that when they bitch about taxes. Oh, the poor rich guy who makes $300,000. He's going to lose half of it to taxes. Oh boo-hoo. That's only $150,000 left. How can he live on that? Tax moaners, especially on the right, give lip service to the ...

In my opinion Shattered was the best episode of the season. It had the strongest characters of the show doing what they do best. Synopsis: Lex gets the proof he needs that his father and Morgan Edge murdered Lex's grandfather. Rather than offing him, his father puts into motion a series of events that makes Lex look like he's crazy and ultimately does make Lex crazy (through a combination of false premises and drugs). Lex turns to Clark for help and Clark, the loyal friend does what...

Dear Producers of Smallville, We don't like Lana. She is not a compelling character. She was never a compelling character. We do not see why the character of Clark is interested in her when Chloe, the other female interest, is so much more....well...interesting. Your episode with the boy who became Magneto was an interesting but the fact remains, we don't care if Clark and Lana are together. We know they won't be together and so any build up is a false one. Sincerely, Tired of Lana

Some people say that Israel gets treated like a second class citizen in the family of nations. That's probably true. But it isn't without reason. I read the pro-Israel articles posted here and using the power of JoeUser , I'm taking advantage of the equal time this site provides to give a different point of view. The nation of Israel was a gift. Yes, Jews lived there at the time of creation and those particular Jews have a historical claim to the regi...

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. It's a cliché. One that Republicans despise and have put forth considerable effort to disprove. They disprove it through a perversion of statistics. "Statistics can be used to prove anything that's remotely true." said the philosopher Homer. Homer Simpson that is. Bush got some good news on the economic front. That is, what we are told. A closer look reveals a mere continuation of the trend that the c...

This week's Smallville raises a bunch of new questions about the Superman universe. That was basically what the episode was about other than showing a bunch of necking by the characters. So what questions are raised? 1) Why was Jorel sent to Earth? 2) What does the medallion mean going forward? 3) Who killed Lex Luthor's Grand father? 4) How did the Luthor's succeed given that Luthor's grand father was a crook and a murderer? 5) Is Jorel good or bad? It was an interesting ep...

Lately I've been watching "Smallville beginnings" where they show episode 1 shows. The plots may have been far fetched with the freak of the week stuff. But the use of characters was much more interesting back then. It is easy to forget what a compelling character Chloe is and how much potential there is for Pete. Then you see this season's episodes which tend to have stronger plots but a poorer use of the characters and a general sloppiness to ...

Did anybody see the episode of Justice League last weekend? It now airs at 10pm EST on Cartoon Network. It is not a kiddie show any more that is certain. This past episode, "A better world", had Superman lobotomizing enemies (when they were lucky) and killing them when they were not so lucky. Of course, this was all an alternative dimension version of the Justice League we saw but the very fact that they showed the JLA taking the gloves o...

New people move next door to Kent's. An adult man and a teenage daughter who has been in coma for like 6 years. Somehow though she is able to get into Clark's dreams. Turns out the uncle was drugging her to stay her guardian so that he could control the estate. Not a bad plot. A few things though. First, where is Pete Ross? Remember him? The kid who knows Clark's secret? You'd think he and Clark would do investigating together. Nope, doesn't even occur to Clark. Instead, he and Lana investig...

Mackubin Owens writes in this week's National Review an article that tries to convince people of the validity of the so-called "Bush Doctrine". His thesis could be described as follows: American predominance as a hegemonic world power is not just good for the United States but for the world. American hegemonic power promotes global stability because no other country or combination of countries at present can rival the United States economically or militarily and thus discou...

This week's Smallville was pretty good. Acknowledging the "freak of the week" concept, the show introduced a vigilante who is out to kill all the meteor freaks before they can do anything. When Clark saves Lex Luthor, now identified as a meteor freak himself due to unnaturally good health, the freak executioner learns Clark's vulnerability after a scuffle brings causes some kryptonite to fall out of the killer's backpack. Armed with this knowledge, the killer makes kryptonite bullets and p...
The second episode of this season of Smallville starts where Exile left off. Bo Kent and Red Kryptonite infected Clark battling it out at the top of a building. Good clark wins the day and just like with Superman 3 where evil Superman is able to "turn good again" and all is forgiven, much the same is true here. But this episode has some troubling idiocies. For one thing, when Clark's parents are held at gun point, Clark literally demonstrates in fr...
I love it when right wingers make up all kinds of imagined reasons why so many Americans just despise George W. Bush. Let me dumb it down for them: We don't like Bush because he's such a complete and utter idiot that every time he speaks we cringe at the embarrassment that this half-wit is the leader of our country. We also are still peeved that Bush is only President because some some dummies in Palm Beach Florida couldn't fill out a ballot. Democrats seem ...
I've been waiting for months for the Smallville season premiere and now that's it's come, I don't know what to think. Clark Kent, the Man of Steel, is now a criminal. There's no "reset" in the episode. I can't fathom what the writers were thinking. When we left young 16 year old Clark Kent, he had accidentally blown up the family barn and in the process killed Ma Kent's unborn child. Depressed, he purposely put on a red Kryptonite ring. This is key because he knew what this would do to him ...

I love how some on the right try to say that "liberals" secretly wished Saddam was back in power. Apparently, in the right wing universe, not toppling Saddam in the exact manner that the right had in mind equals being a buddy of Saddam. Meanwhile, they'll paint the entire left with the broad stroke of craziness and naiveté because a few loonies went over to Iraq to act as human shields. Balderdash! The right will proudly ta...
